Riding Association

A Riding Association (RA) is a local volunteer branch of the BC Green Party that represents an Electoral District (also known as a riding). Riding Associations are internal volunteer structures of the BC Green Party. They are NOT Constituency Associations as defined by Elections BC, though they can serve similar functions.

Regional Riding Associations (RRAs), are a similar to RAs in that they consist of a local volunteer team of the BC Green Party recognized by Provincial Council as the official local branch of the BC Green Party. However, unlike RAs which represent a single electoral district, RRAs represent more than one multiple  Electoral Districts that make up a “Region”.

(R)RA Executive Board

RAs and RRAs consist of Executive Board, which is a team of 4-11 volunteers. Any member of an RA can be voted to be on the Executive Board through an election process by members of the BC Green party who are located in the RAs Electoral District.

(R)RA Roles

Executive members of an RA will fill the following roles for a term of 1 to 2 years:

• Treasurer
• Chair
• Data and Privacy Officer
• Volunteer Coordinator
• Fundraising Coordinator
• Communications and Social Media Coordinator
• Canvassing Coordinator
• Event Coordinator

Appointed of the Treasurer, Chair, Data and Privacy Officer, and Volunteer Coordinator should be prioritized by the Executive Board.

Purpose of an RA

RAs are responsible for the following activities:

• Recruit, Manage, and Engage Volunteers
• Identify Green Voters and Supporters
• Build an Election-Ready Team
• Raise Local Funds for the Next Election
• Foster a Green Community (Internally)
• Community Outreach and Involvement (Externally)
• Advocate on Topics of Local Importance
• Identify and Support Prospective Candidates

RA Benefits

Riding Associations are recognized as an official branch of the BC Green Party. Forming an official RA has the following benefits:

• RAs are featured on the BC Greens Website
• RAs are involved in the official Candidate Nomination process within the RAs riding(s)
• RAs have access to RA Funds
• RAs receive guidance and training on how to reach specific statistics that determine the tier of your riding/campaign come election time;
  • These metrics are reached by carrying out different RA activities and initiatives
  • Due to tiers being determined by statistics, they are under your control! If you want to move up, you have the control of that with the right skills, data tracking, and leveraging of systems

• Overall, the benefits of being part of your riding’s RA is that you get to directly contribute to making your community a better place to live for you and your family, neighbors, friends. Be proud of that!
